Ameera Ba-Fadhel

Dr. Ameera Ba-Fadhel is from Mukalla, Hadramout, Yemen. She received her bachelor’s degree in medicine from Hadramout University College of Medicine and a master’s in Implementation Science from the Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR University) in Jaipur, India. This master’s degree was awarded through a special program by the World Health Organization (WHO) and TDR, a program for research and training in tropical diseases.
In 2024, Dr. Ba-Fadhel joined UNFPA-Yemen as a Sexual and Reproductive Health National Consultant. Previously, she served as the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the WHO office in Hadramout, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of health programs. Dr. Ameera has led several health initiatives in mental health and substance use prevention in Hadramout. She researches community engagement in health design and implementation.
During her fellowship, Dr. Ba-Fadhel plans to gain experience in substance rehabilitation, learn about best practices in drug abuse policy, understand how to improve the quality of care in addiction services and transfer this knowledge to Yemen. She is committed to encouraging community-based prevention in her society and aims to work closely with policymakers in her country to establish a government drug rehabilitation center.
