Ms. Iuliia Fatkhullina, from Tyumen, Russia, earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law from the Tyumen State University in 2006. She has eight years of experience in civil law, and has worked in a federal arbitration court in the West Siberia region as a legal advocate.

In 2014, Ms. Fatkhullina founded the nonprofit organization Young Leaders for orphans and foster families. The organization provides mentoring programs for orphans, courses for individuals interested in adoption, and education and support for women experiencing violence. In her role as mentoring program lead, Ms. Fatkhullina has contributed significantly to increasing access to mental health resources for orphans and promoting the social development and well-being of orphans in her country. She currently provides services to children with histories of psychological trauma, including sexual abuse and substance use.

During her fellowship year, Ms. Fatkhullina hopes to continue to develop professional competence in substance abuse education, prevention and treatment. Additionally, she plans to deepen her understanding of issues pertaining to surviving sexual violence and best practices for supporting survivors of such trauma. Finally, Ms. Fatkhullina seeks to enhance her leadership, public speaking and project management skills.
