Macaire Nankangre from Burkina Faso is a police officer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Ouagadougou, with specialized studies in American Literature and Civilization from the Centre Universitaire Polyvalent du Burkina (CUPB). In 2021, as part of his advancement to the rank of police commissioner, he published a thesis on the role of the national police in Burkina Faso’s tobacco control efforts.
Mr. Nankangre has over 16 years of experience in the national police force. Since 2022, he has served as the head of the Child Protection Brigade in the northern region of the country. In this role, he leads efforts to support children and women affected by gender-based violence. He also brings extensive experience in criminal investigations involving youth with substance use issues.
During his fellowship, Mr. Nankangre aims to deepen his understanding of the use of children in drug trafficking and to strengthen his leadership skills. Upon his return to Burkina Faso, he plans to evaluate existing drug prevention strategies in Burkina Faso, examine their limitations, and contribute to their enhancement by advocating for policy reforms that better address drug abuse and trafficking, especially among vulnerable populations.
