Fernando Sarmento

Mr. Fernando Sarmento, from Baucau Timor-Leste, is a nurse and pharmacist. He received his diploma in pharmacy in 2008 from the National Institute of Health in Dili Timor-Leste and a scholarship to obtain a Bachelor of Nursing Science from Assumption University of Thailand in Thailand in 2018.
In 2008, Mr. Sarmento worked as a pharmacy coordinator in the Ministry of Health in the northeastern municipality of Baucau, the second-largest city in the country. Concurrently, he was appointed president of the pharmacy association in the same municipality. During his term as a pharmacy coordinator, he engaged with both public and private authorities regarding his work.
After completing his nursing degree in 2018, Mr. Sarmento was appointed as a health officer in the Ministry of Health. In 2020, he began his new role with St. John of God International Health as Health Manager Program and Municipality Officer, and then as Leadership Program Officer in 2023. In these roles, he has worked with various development agencies such as the WHO and USAID. During his fellowship, he plans to learn more about leadership and management skills.
