Dr. Valentina Vera Díaz

Dr. Valentina Vera Díaz from Puerto Montt, Chile. She obtained her bachelor's degree in medicine from Austral University of Chile, and earned a postgraduate diploma in Family Medicine and in Pain and Palliative Care from Catholic University of Chile.

Dr. Valentina has 12 years of professional experience working in public health, seven of which are in Oncologic Palliative Care. In 2023, she assumed duties as the Head of the Palliative Care Unit of the Cancer Center in Puerto Montt Hospital, the highest complex hospital in the south of Chile. In this role she manages all the clinical processes and projects related to the Unit and leads a team of fifteen multidisciplinary professionals who attend to the necessities of all the patients in the region. She works closely with local and national universities to improve professional knowledge in the field. She is an active member of the Latin American Association of Palliative Care and the creator and medical director of a local home-based Palliative Care Clinic called Puerto Amapolas. During her fellowship, Dr. Valentina plans to improve her leadership and management skills related to cancer and palliative care.
